Xam Xam

Xam Xam (in English ‘to understand’): is a
coproduction of the composer Thijs Borsten and Theatre De Lieve Vrouw (Amersfoort-Holland) .
The basic of the music is the Senegalese poetry of poets/text writers Léopold Sédar Senghor (former president of Senegal), David Diop and Mola Sylla The poetry is partly performed in the mother tongue of Mola Sylla - the Wolof language - and partly in English.
The poems are interwoven into the compositions of Thijs Borsten. The songs are being performed by two voice artists:

Mola Sylla and Sylvia de Hartog. The music is performed by Dutch as well as African musicians.

Ton Maas wrote in ‘De Volkskrant’:’ (…) a special production with boarder seeking vocal interactions, stimulated by a very good interacting band.’
